Nora Talks about the Tailoring Skill

The basic purpose of clothes has always been to keep us warm and protect us from injury. But those days are long gone. Today, clothes are a vehicle for making a fashion statement! Everyone wants to have the prettiest, trendiest clothes. You know you do too! Be honest.

As you know, you can buy clothes either from the general shop or the clothing shop. But the problem is money, money, and money. It's too expensive for most people.
So what can you do? How about making your own clothes?! It costs less, and if you're good enough, you can even make a bunch of them and sell them. The best part about it is that you get to make it yourself! Sewing can be a tedious job, but it can also be a good hobby to help you relax. You can even work part-time at the general shop and clothing shop, and make some side money. The pay is pretty good too. These days, I heard Malcolm even gives you the necessary materials and sewing pattern when you take the job. It doesn't get easier than that!
Almost all your material is provided and it's also good money. That's probably why there are so many people who are making their own clothes these days. Plus, Malcolm buys fabric, dye and patterns from me all the time, so what's not to like about that?

1. The Skill Rank and Difficulty of Sewing Patterns

Alright, let's begin~ First, you need to learn the Tailoring skill. This skill is easy to learn. Buy the Tailoring Kit (make sure you buy it from me!) and simply equip it in your hand. You will then get the Tailoring skill!
Next, you will need 3 items in order to actually make clothes: the tailoring kit, sewing pattern and fabric. The sewing pattern is basically the manual for making clothes. (You can get this from me as well!) It's true that there are things in Dunbarton that I don't have, but it's a bit far from here, no? You can save a lot time just buying materials from me.
Now you're all set. Hold the tailoring kit in one hand, the sewing pattern on the other, and use the Tailoring skill. Then just put in the necessary materials. Easy, right?
However, don't try to make difficult clothes from the very beginning, because you'll just waste your materials. If you look at the sewing pattern, it tells you the exact difficulty level of the pattern. If you attempt to make clothes that are beyond your skill ranking, you will most likely fail. However, as your ranking goes up, your chances of failing will decrease. When you use the skill, it will give you the success rate of that pattern at your current ranking. (How nice!)

2. Success and Failure, and the completion rate

Hold it right there! Before you go off buying patterns, thinking you know everything, read the rest of this book. There are still a few things you'll need to know.
First, just because you earned a "Great Success" doesn't mean the clothing is finished. It's not that simple. Even veterans like me need to double check to see if there's anything wrong with it. After you successfully make the clothes, it tells you what percentage of the clothing is completed. You can't wear the clothes until it is 100% complete. So as you continue to 'Make Clothes', the completion percentage will go higher. This means you will need to repeat this several times in order to finish a single shirt.

You'll need to practice a number of times before you'll slowly get the hang of tailoring. From my experience, there are 4 possible outcomes from tailoring: great success, success, fail and extreme failure. Remember that just because you earned Great Success does not mean the tailoring is complete. It just means that you are that much closer to completion. Also, even when you Fail, your percentage can still go up a little bit. But you must be careful of Extreme Failure, for this can actually lower your completion percentage.

Well, that's about it. Good luck on becoming Erinn's top fashion designer!
P.S. I almost forgot! If your clothes ever get worn out, bring it to me. I repair clothes for cheap~
